The Whistler resort experience is not only huge by any standards, but they get bountiful snowfall, have one of the longest ski and snowboard seasons anywhere and have won more awards to "best of" from virtually every ski and snowboard magazine in North America.
While many resorts are closed for the winter, Whistler and Blackcomb resorts are still open and according to their web site will be open through June 8 this year. I had the chance to originally ski here several decades ago when they were operated separately. Last spring I was able to make my way back after an absence of 15 years and was again simply blown away at how big, steep, diverse and enjoyable a week ski and snowboard vacation was at Whistler and Blackcomb. It was a year where the snow had come often and in plentiful amounts. This ensured top to bottom skiing and snowboarding of over 5,000 vertical feet. More than enough to have my legs shaking when ever going top to bottom.
A favorite spring event to always keep in mind to check out is the annual Telus music festival each April. When we were there last spring we saw Stephen Marley, Toots and the Maytalls on different days after skiing. Lots of activity in the village and parties galore.
Booking an all inclusive package is usually the best value when planning a ski and snowboard vacation to Whistler and Blackcomb Resorts. At Ski the Rockies we make sure to negotiate the best group deals to ensure you have the best value when booking a ski or snowboard vacation.
The there are abundant lodging options as well. Below is a quick sampling of some of our favorite places to stay on a ski vacation to Whistler.
The Woods Condominiums is a townhome-style accommodation property located on the award winning Chateau Whistler Resort Golf Course. A warm and confortable place to stay for your next ski and snowboard vacation in Whistler. The units at the Woods are complete with fully equipped kitchens including dishwashers and microwaves, fireplaces, heated tile floors, in-suite washers/dryers, balconies and TV/VCRs.
The Horstman House is a great home for your next ski and snowboard vacation at Whistler. Horstman House is a condominium close to Whistler's most popular spots, yet blissfully away from the pace of the village. Horstman House is located in the Benchlands at the foot of Blackcomb Mountain. These Whistler condos feature a fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, washer/dryer, TV, stereo and VCR in each suite. Some of these Whistler condos have balconies and views. All condos are non-smoking. Amenities at this Whistler lodging property include pool, hot tub, and daily housekeeping.
Convenience and comfortable condos for your next Whistler ski and and snowboard vacation. Conveniently located next to Whistler's Marketplace Centre, these tastefully decorated and contemporary Whistler condos are close to restaurants and all amenities, with the Village ski lifts within 300 metres walking distance. All of these Whistler condos are located on the 2nd or 3rd floor with Village shops underneath, and feature a comfy, gas fireplace, air conditioning and a private sundeck. Many have high ceilings. As a guest in this complex you can enjoy a common, outdoor hot tub for ultimate relaxation while on your Whistler ski vacation.
The Blackcomb Lodge is one of my all time favorites. Blackcomb Lodge could not be closer to the fun and excitement of Whistler Village. This property underwent a 5 million dollar renovation during the summer of 2004 and is better than ever! Restaurants, shops, cinemas, and art galleries surround the hotel. The Village Gondola is a brief 2 minute walk through the pedestrian village. Each Studio or Studio Loft unit provides full kitchen facilities and a variety of bed configurations for both families and couples. Relax in Whistler's only indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna. Araxi Restaurant offers superb dining and an award-winning wine selection to top off your Whistler ski vacation. I have personally enjoyed more than a few fine dinners here.
